Why by a Nissan NV Work Van?

Why by a Nissan NV Work Van?

by Scott M. Foy
Vacaville Nissan
Vacaville, CA

With the release of the Dodge Promaster, the continued production of the Mercedes Sprinter and the rumors of the newly designed Ford Transit coming over from Europe, the question being asked is; Why should I buy a Nissan Work Van? With so many vans competing for the same business, what makes one better over the other? A huge part of the answer is your intent of use - how you plan on using the van and what features are most important to you. I have first hand Nissan experience, so here's my justification of why the NV is a good choice.

Forward Engine Design

The NV will still offer a pickup truck based van, with the engine mounted all the way to the front. While certain competitors will offer a "doghouse" design with the engine sort of half in and half out of the driver area. If you have grown accustomed to driving a pickup, the NV will feel more like home to you than sitting up very high over a short nosed cargo van offered by our competitors.

Center Console

While it sounds fairly insignificant, the center console has played a large role in decision making for NV Cargo Van purchases. The large, lockable center console in NV features a sliding surface for writing, large interior storage with a laptop shelf, 12V power, storage tray, section for hanging file folders, business card and pen holder and an optional 110V power outlet. This center console, when used in part with the hard back flat-floding passenger seat, truly creates a mobile office on wheels!

Standard 2500 Features

The designers of the Nissan NV put a lot of thought into features that business owners use most and then compared that list with the Standard Options on our competitor's work vans. Small things like, I don't know, a radio are options on some of our competitors? Really? Here are some very popular features that are standard on the Nissan NV that you may find yourself paying extra for on a competitor's lot, or maybe not at all since they don't offer it!
  • 26 Speed HVAC system
  • AM/FM Radio with Single CD and AUX Input
  • Power Mirrors
  • 5-speed Automatic Transmission
  • Tilt Wheel
  • Center Console
  • Underseat Driver Storage Drawer
  • (3) Overhead Storage Bins
  • 3 sets of Interior Cargo Lights
  • 243 Degree Wide Opening Rear Cargo Doors

Customer Incentive Packages

Nissan Commercial Vehicles offers its customers multiple choices under their No-Cost Customer Incentive Program. Options include addition up-fit rebates, vehicle graphics, cargo partitions, shelving, ladder racks, and credits towards upgraded up-fit packages. Some of our competitors offer a credit, which typically requires you to come out of pocket for full packages like what we have to offer through Adrian Steel. Other competitors offer no type of customer incentive package at all, leaving you all alone to figure it out. I can say from experience with the NV that the Nissan CIP has been a huge part of our success.

Ride Quality

Part of my training as a Nissan Commercial Salesperson was to drive competitor's work vans and compare the ride quality to ours. The NV experience can be described as a pickup truck or large SUV ride - smooth and fairly quiet. It drives me crazy when people say "It feels a little heavy and sloshy". Really? A 9 foot tall cargo van that weighs 5,500 pounds didn't have the sporty feel like your 370Z sports cars? Say what???

When I drove the competitors vans I felt cramped, uncomfortable and noticed a significant amount of road noise. Sitting behind a wheel for 8 to 10 hours per day makes ride quality rank towards the top of my list. Very few people, once they drive a Nissan NV CargoVan, don't like. I've heard a thousand times, "This drives just like my Truck".

FedEx to Test all Electric Nissan NV200

Electric NV200 undergoes FedEx Testing

by Scott M. Foy

A subsidiary of FedEx Corp., FedEx Express announced that they will begin testing the Nissan e-NV200, an all-electric compact cargo van, under real world conditions in Washington.

This test marks the first time the vehicle will be used on North American roadways. Japan, Singapore, the United Kingdom, and Brazil have already seen their tests of the e-NV200 by FedEx Express and Nissan.

Both companies are committed to reducing the environmental impact of their operations worldwide. Using the e-NV200 in their fleet is part of the FedEx EarthSmart program -  a global platform designed to guide the company's environmental commitment in the communities where it operates. For Nissan, this effort aligns with its "Blue Citizenship" corporate social responsibility program. The focus of this program is to increase the number of vehicles that emit no greenhouse gases by exploring additional segments where its electric vehicle may be applied.

FedEx will deploy the Nissan e-NV200 in the Washington, D.C. market where it will undergo field tests that subject it to the routine requirements of a delivery vehicle. The end results will be reviewed to determine the viability of using an electric vehicle in this role. Mass production of the Nissan e-NV200 is scheduled to begin later this year in Europe, according to the delivery company.

Nissan NV Cargo Van & Adrian Steel Upfit Packages

Every contractor has their work van setup differently depending on the job it needs to do. Locksmiths, HVAC Contractors and Electricians now have a little bit easier time getting their vans up-fitted with the Nissan NV Cargo Van Contractor Up-fit Packages provided by Adrian Steel. Instead of taking the standard cargo van racks and bins, contractors can choose from one of six pre-configured packages. These packages come designed keeping an individual tradesman's needs in mind, along with an upfront Customer Co-pay Price. Please see our review of the most popular packages we sell and contact us directly for more information.

Adrian Steel Electrical Package - $1,121 Co-Pay

The Electrical Package features the standard AD Series Shelving, but stuffed to gills with functional organizers. There are two full-shelf locking doors for larger power tool security and. The curbside of the van features an AD Series Shelf with small parts pull-out storage drawers, a locking door and a 4 hook bar at the rear. The streetside features two AD Shelves fully stocked with individual Blue Storage Bins that can be removed for easy re-stocking and cleaning. Also these streetside shelves are equipped with upper tier storage dividers, allowing the contractor to maintain some order with there medium and large parts storage. To the rear of the curbside shelves there is a wire tiered wire spool holder as well.

Adrian Steel HVAC Package - $992 Co-pay

Once again the AD Series Shelving is used as the platform for this functional HVAC Contractor Package. Shelf dividers, blue bins, small part storage drawers and a locking shelf door all carry over from the previous package, however a 30-pound Freon tank holder is added to the rear street-side shelving. Designed to carry a maximum of 3 tanks, this rack is secured to the lower and upper shelving rails for a snug fit, and bottle straps keep your tanks in place.

Locksmith Package - $1,900 - $2,400 Co-Pay

Now we come to my personal favorite, the Adrian Steel Locksmith Package. Out of the 5 Locksmith Packages we've sold, only one has been to an actual locksmith. The large, sturdy workbench and plentiful storage make the Locksmith Package a mobile workshop on wheels. Maintenance contractors LOVE having somewhere out of the rain/sun to go and work. There's enough storage space to keep a well stock van at all times. Add in a few additional LED strip lights and a rear A/C unit and this van is literally a rolling workstation. The Low Roof and High Roof designs differ, hence the dual pricing of $1,900 or $2,400.

There are several other up-fit packages available and you can get more information about them by visiting our website here and speaking with Scott Foy.

Adrian Steel Roof Rack Review - Vacaville Nissan

Review - Adrian Steel Roof Racks for Nissan NV Cargo Van

January 11, 2014
by Scott M. Foy

As a large Nissan Commercial Dealer in Northern California I have had my share of feedback from customers using the Adrian Steel Roof Racks. Based on their experience (and my own) I have compiled this review to give prospective buyers an idea of what they can expect.

Adrian Steel Nissan NV Standard Roof 2-Bar and 3-Bar Roof Rack

While the 2 and 3-bar roof rack is fairly inexpensive, this rack leaves much to be desired. The Nissan NV has reinforced mounting points for the roof rack which are designed to eliminate the need to drill into the van to mount accessories. The problem with this rack is that the first set of mounting points at the back of the van leave the area over the rear cargo doors exposed, resulting in damage from mounting ladders, lumber and other items. I would avoid this roof rack if at all possible.

Adrian Steel Nissan NV Standard Roof 3-Bar Roof Rack with Rear Roller

The 3 bar roof rack with rear roller completely eliminates the issues listed for the standard 2 and 3-bar roof rack. The roller protrudes off the back of the van, providing a platform to rest your ladders/lumber on, and then assists your items onto the rack using the roller system. This is a great option, functions well and holds up to heavy duty use. This is a recommended rack, however; shorter drivers may have difficulties getting the items up onto the rack all the way.

Adrian Steel Nissan NV Standard Roof EZ Load

The patent pending design of the EZ Load Ladder Rack brings the ladder down the side of the van about 6” towards the operator making it easier to reach when you unload and more importantly, when the operator has to load the ladder, they no longer have to lift the ladder to the top of the cargo van reducing the risk of injury. This is actually a very nice rack, available in single and double configurations. This is a ladder rack, and lumber/pipe is not designed to be carried. You will need to invest in a Roof Mounted Pipe Box. No bungee cords are needed as four brackets secure the ladder tightly in place during transportation. Proper adjustment should take place when you first load your ladders on the EZ Load Rack, which can hold extension ladders up to 36' and A-Frame ladders up to 8 feet.

Adrian Steel Nissan NV Loadsright Ladder Racks

Now these racks are cool. Adrian’s LOADSRITE Ladder Racks easily raise and lower to eliminate the need to climb, stretch or reach for your ladder on top of your van. The unique design of the LOADSRITE presents the ladder in a diagonal position bringing it to a comfortable working height in the right way. LOADSRITE, the right way to load and unload ladders. Available in single and double ladder configurations they can be pricey, but these are by far the easiest way to load ladders. If you own a Nissan NV High Roof Cargo Van this is really the only way to carry ladders. There are other rack makers who offer a High Roof Rack, but getting anything up there (almost 9 feet in the air) requires a second ladder.

Vacaville Nissan - Leaf now in 4th Production Year

Nissan Leaf Charges into 4th Production Year

January 9, 2014

As the 100 percent electric Nissan LEAF enters its fourth model year, its popularity and sales continue to soar. Nissan LEAF provides consumers the benefits of an all-electric  car – a quiet and fun driving experience, lower operating costs, the increased convenience of fueling at home and less scheduled maintenance – at a price after tax incentives that rival comparable gas-powered vehicles.
For the 2014 model year, the estimated driving range for LEAF on a fully-charged battery is rated at 84 miles and MPGe ratings are 126 City, 101 Highway and 114 Combined. LEAF is assembled in the United States at Nissan's Smyrna, Tenn., assembly plant, with battery production taking place next door in the country's largest lithium-ion (Li-ion) automotive battery plant.
The 2014 Nissan LEAF is available in three trim levels: LEAF S, SV and SL, along with option packages offering advanced systems such as Around View® Monitor and seven-speaker Bose® energy efficient audio. Enhancements for 2014 include the addition of the RearView Monitor as standard equipment on all models (previously part of the S-grade Charge Package) and one new exterior color – Gun Metallic (seven total available colors).
Three Well-Equipped Models, Three Option Packages
The 2014 Nissan LEAF is offered in three well-equipped models, the LEAF S, LEAF SV and LEAF SL. Standard features include a six-way manual driver's seat, four-way manual front passenger's seat, trip computer (instant and average energy consumption, driving time, outside temperature and autonomy range), Automatic Temperature Control (ATC), center console storage, RearView Monitor and 3.6 kW onboard charger.
Other standard equipment includes Nissan Intelligent Key® with Push Button Start, power windows with driver's window one-touch auto up/down, power door locks with auto locking feature, remote charge door release, two cupholders, four bottle holders, variable intermittent windshield wipers, a 12-volt power outlet and 16-inch steel wheels with full wheel covers.
The Nissan LEAF SV model adds Nissan Navigation system, 7.0-inch color LCD screen, CARWINGS telematics, six-speaker audio system, Pandora® link for iPhone®, 16-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, 6.6 kW onboard charger, a hybrid heater system that provides superior cold weather performance while consuming less energy, cruise control, auto-dimming inside mirror, partially recycled cloth seat fabric, passenger side map pocket and "B-mode" regenerative braking.
The 2014 LEAF SL model adds a photovoltaic solar panel spoiler, fog lights, auto on/off headlights, cargo cover, HomeLink® Universal Transceiver, Quick Charge Port, leather-appointed seats, LED headlights and 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels.
Three option packages are offered, allowing buyers to further select the exact equipment and features for their needs. The Quick Charge Package (S grade only) includes the 6.6 kW onboard charger and Quick Charge Port. The LED Headlights + Quick Charge Port Package (SV grade only) includes LED headlights, auto on/off headlights, fog lights and Quick Charge Port. Finally, the Premium Package (SV and SL grades) offers the advanced Around View® Monitor and Bose® seven-speaker audio.
A Roadside Assistance program is offered for 36 months at no charge, as is service for the CARWINGS telematics system.
The advanced Li-ion battery pack carries an industry-competitive warranty of eight years or 100,000 miles. Under an expanded New Electric Vehicle Limited Warranty, Nissan will protect against capacity loss in LEAF batteries that fall below nine bars, of the available 12 bars displayed on the vehicle's battery capacity gauge, for the first five years or 60,000 miles in the United States, whichever comes first.
U.S. Nissan LEAF production is sourced from assembly and battery production facilities in Smyrna, Tenn., and it is assembled on the same line as Maxima and Altima sedans. Nissan has a 30-year history of building quality vehicles in Smyrna. Nissan's Li-ion battery plant is in an adjacent facility which is the largest lithium-ion automotive battery plant in the U.S. Nissan is currently the only automaker that manufactures its own electric vehicle (EV) batteries.

Vacaville Nissan NV Fuel Economy Test - True MPG

Nissan NV Cargo Van Fuel Economy Test - True MPG Rating

January 7, 2014
by Scott M. Foy

This is a fuel economy test for a Nissan NV 2500 High Roof Cargo Van with the 5.6L V8 engine. I get asked about fuel economy a lot by customers, so I figured a real world test would do the trick. This van had about 500 pounds of payload and was run a fairly flat and straight stretch of freeway at 65-66 miles per hour. It's not a cross country tour with mountains and hills, but it's a start! Check out my video below and as always you contact me by clicking here

Vacaville Nissan Presents the Perfect Catering Van

Nissan NV could be your Perfect Catering Van

January 6, 2014
by Scott M. Foy

Almost anyone who has worked in the restaurant industry has at some point done a "catering gig". Most of the time it involves loading overflowing trays of food into the back of some van along with tables, chairs, carving boards, warming lamps and much, much more.

You drive to your catering event carefully, obeying all traffic laws and then, "IT" happens. You press the brake pedal a little too hard at a red light and WHAM! Everything shifts in the back of the van and you cringe at the thought of what you've just done. The end result? If you're lucky, you arrive at your end destination with about 90% of the food you started out with being still edible, and not splattered about all over the place.

Nissan of Vacaville has a solution to your problems. Our solution pairs the Nissan NV Cargo Van and the Katerack by Dejana. The Katerack offers two or three pull out shelves that can be adjusted to fit your needs. Commercial grade drawer slides extend fully to maximize your storage space. Heavy-duty modular shelving makes the system extremely versatile.

Optional molded inserts allow you to transport entire cooking pans of food, along with stemware and other items securely and to avoid shifting.

We have already installed a few of these units and our end users love them! AS always if you have any questions, comments or concerns please contact us here

Vacaville Nissan - NV Cargo Van Towing

Nissan Cargo Van offers Impressive Towing

January 6, 2014
by Scott M. Foy

When the Nissan NV Cargo Vans hit the scene in 2011 I was overall pleased with the features and benefits, but I was blown away by the towing capacity. Due in part to the NV's huge breaking system which offers 14.2" front  and 14.4" rear rotors, the NV offers up to oodles of towing power.

When ordered from the factory with the 5.6L V8 and the factory tow package, the NV boasts a 9,500 pound towing capacity and is accessorized with extendable tow mirrors, a Class IV hitch, standard 7-way hitch plug, transmission cooler and a select-able Tow/Haul Mode.
So, what happens when the NV you want doesn't have the Factory Tow Hitch? No worries, Nissan has you covered there as well. The factory receiver and harness are available through our parts department and will equip any NV, V6 or V8 mind you, with a 7,000 max towing capacity.

Either way you slice it, the NV is truly a workhorse with features relating more to a pickup truck than a traditional cargo van. For information on how the Nissan NV Cargo Van can work for your business, visit our website here

2014 Nissan Altima - Perfect Fleet Sedan?

Big Business Chooses Altima - Why don't you?

As a Fleet Manager for a large volume Nissan dealer in Northern California I have seen an influx of "Big Business" purchasing of the Nissan Altima 2.5 S Sedan. Very few vehicles this size offer the comfort, convenience, features and fuel economy that the Altima does.

The Altima also meets most business minimum requirements - 30+ Combined MPG, Bluetooth Hands-free Phone System and the Made in America title.

The 2.5 S comes standard with power windows, power locks, key-less entry, cruise control, Bluetooth Hands-free, Nissan Intelligent Key, and tilt wheel. Factor in the Altima's estimated 27 MPG City and 38 MPG Highway and the Altima 2.5 S Sedan is a great option for Business owners. The Timing Chain needs literally no maintenance compare to timing belts and the Zero G Driver Seat adds maximum comfort for those long drives. 2014 Altima is also available in 4 trim levels with two engine options which include a powerful 3.5L V6 engine.

Some ask, "Why would a business use an Altima?" Here's some great ideas and uses for the Altima in a business environment.
  • Taxi Cabs
  • Outside Salesperson Vehicles
  • Regional Managers
  • Light Delivery Vehicles
  • Real Estate Agents
  • Rental Cars
  • Management Vehicles
  • Executive Vehicles
This list is based on what I have seen lately - the possibilities are really endless. Long story short, the Altima may be the perfect addition to your business fleet!

Billboard Advertising on Wheels - Vacaville Nissan

January 2, 2014

Billboard On Wheels

BE YOUR OWN ADVERTISING AGENCY

Vehicle wrapping, billboards on wheels, carvertising -- when you wrap your Nissan NV Cargo Van or Nissan NV200, you take control of your message. The Nissan Commercial Graphics program will help you give your Nissan NV commercial van a personal touch while promoting your company, products and services at the same time. Wrap your NV with attention-grabbing logo and graphics. Using an online tool, you can decide to simply upload your business' insignia or create something from scratch.

Next time you are cruising on the highway in Sacramento keep your eyes out for all of the Nissan NV Cargo Van logos and graphics - they are hard to miss!

THE NEED TO ADVERTISE YOUR BUSINESS

Advertising is the 'must-do' marketing medium that gets your business in front of your target customers. Because business is mostly local, it is necessary to find ways of advertising your business to the local market without breaking the bank. Placing a billboard ad on a major highway through an agency can be astronomically expensive. Apart from the high cost, other conventional advertising media may not get you the local impressions and business volume that a wrapped mobile vehicle can.

CONVENTIONAL vs INNOVATIVE ADVERTISING

For your business advertising to be effective, it must have multiple and on-going impressions on your target customers. We've all heard the experts say that a radio or TV spot must be heard or seen a certain number of times before the listener/viewer even registers what is be sold by the spot. Also, with the advent of the Internet, print advertising (newspaper, magazine, etc.) are no longer as effective as they used to be because a high percentage of consumers now turn to the Internet first to start their search for products and services they want to purchase in their local communities. A wrapped commercial vehicle wrap is the perfect way to send customers to your website.

HERE ARE SOME STATISTICS TO CONSIDER

An independent study performed by American Trucking Association (ATA) and 3M Commercial Graphics Division, revealed that

  • a single Nissan NV Van with a wrap that traveled in or around a major city generated over 65,000 visual impressions per day
  • the same Nissan NV Cargo Van with a wrap when traveled in suburban areas of major cities generated over 30,000 visual impressions per day
The study also revealed that people/customers who viewed the vehicle wrap had the following impressions:
  • 98% of consumers feel fleet graphics created a positive image for the advertising company
  • 96% said fleet graphics (wrapped vehicles) had more impact than billboards or other outdoor advertising media
  • 91% of all people notice the words and images displayed on vehicle graphics
  • 75% of consumers develop an impression about a company and its products based upon vehicle graphics
  • According to the OAAA (Outdoor Advertising Association of America), mobile advertising can be the most effective and cost efficient form of outdoor advertising with a lower cost per mile.
  • Always on. Unlike radio, print, or television advertising which can be turned off, vehicle advertising is perpetually on. You are always advertising your business -- even when your Nissan NV Van is parked in a private driveway or in front of your business.
  • Advertise at places where you otherwise could not due to cost limitations for your business: For example, trade shows, conventions, and grand openings. Simple arrive in your wrapped Nissan NV commercial van and right away you are already advertising to attendees.

NISSAN NV VANS ARE READY TO WORK FOR YOUR BUSINESS

Whether your business purchases the Nissan NV Standard Roof, Nissan NV High Roof or the new Nissan NV200, you have ample space to create captivating vehicle wraps that will give your business maximum exposure to your customers as you drive around town.

Nissan Frontier Work Trucks

Nissan Frontier - Your Next Work Truck

January 2, 2014

The compact work truck market has been a little upside down for the last year or so due Ford discontinuing the popular Ford Ranger and GM doing away with the Colorado and Canyon. At this point there are really two viable options out there for businesses who need compact pickups for their fleet - Nissan and Toyota.

The Nissan Frontier Pickup, available with two engine choices in two cab configurations and multiple bed options has been the biggest winner thus far. The 2.5 liter 4-cylinder Frontier actually had production delays due in part to running out of engines because of overwhelming demand. Fleet orders alone for the Nissan Frontier has kept the factory very busy!

Available only in a King Cab (Extended Cab) the 2014 Nissan Frontier 4-cylinder is a great option for businesses who need a light pickup truck without the full-size truck footprint. The Frontier offers a 6-foot pickup bed, seating for four and a payload of just over 900 pounds making it capable of most all light duty situations. Unlike our competition the Frontier's pickup bed is 100% metal, where our competitor offers a mixed composite pickup bed.

When equipped with a ladder or lumber rack and a few tool boxes, the Nissan Frontier is work ready, and at a fair price. With a base MSRP of only $17,990 (destination fees not included) the Frontier can fit into most any budget.* Throw into the mix the Estimated 23 MPG Highway and 17 MPG City and you may find that the Frontier Pickup could replace a few of your pickups and save you have hundreds a month in fuel cost.

Please see below for pictures and as always you can contact us by visiting our website here.

* - Please keep in mind this pricing is based on a 4-cylinder S with manual transmission and no air conditioning and does not include the destination fee.
