Nissan NV200 vs. 2014 Ford Transit Connect

While the 2014 Ford Transit Connect is upgaded with new options and features over its previous model, it's still lacking in a few departments when compared to the Nissan NV200 Compact Cargo Van. Below is a comparison and review of said differences to help make your compact cargo van buying decision a little easier.

First and foremost we have to talk about warranty. When considering Vehicle Return on Investment some of largest pieces of the pie are maintenance and repairs. With America's Best Cargo Van Warranty, the Nissan NV200 is the sure winner here. Featuring a 5 year or 100,000 mile limited bumper to bumper warranty, the NV200 offers  2 years and a whopping 64.000 miles of additional warranty coverage over the Ford Transit Connect. For higher mileage drivers this is a huge benefit and peace of mind ( and also speaks volumes about Nissan's confidence in the NV200).

Second we'll cover pricing. The Nissan NV200 has a starting price of $20,720 which excludes destination fees while the Ford Transit Connect starts out at $1,410 higher with a price (excluding destination) of $22,130. Keep this $1,410 price difference in mind - we will revisit this later.

Third point here is up-fitting. When purchasing a Nissan NV200 from Certified Commercial Dealers the customer has their choice of several up-fit choices to choose from at NO-COST. These up-fits include choices of cargo partitions, interior shelving, roof racks or even van wrap graphics. Ford offers their customers a $350 incentive which from our experience will cover very little up-fitting.

Now, based on the 3 points above let's investigate some TRUE cost. These are easy round numbers that we find are in line with real wold situations. These may not be the same everywhere across the country but you catch our drift. Nissan has a $4,655 price advantage based on our estimates.

Prices do not include destination or handling

Nissan NV Cargo Van Payload Review

I get asked quite often about the payload capacities for the Nissan Commercial Van Lineup and how that relates to everyday usage. Here's a review of the Nissan NV Cargo Van Payloads and some helpful hints to assist you in picking the NV that best suits your needs. Something that needs to be mentioned when calculating payload is that you need to consider EVERYTHING going in to the back of the van plus fuel, driver and passenger body weight, weight of shelving, partitions and other up-fits.

Nissan NV 1500 V6 Cargo Van - Low Roof
Payload Range = 2,535 -2,590 pounds

Nissan NV 2500 V6 Cargo Van - Low Roof
Payload Range = 3,031 - 3,141 pounds

Nissan NV 2500 V8 Cargo Van - Low Roof
Payload Range = 2,976 - 3,086 pounds

Nissan NV 3500 V8 Cargo Van - Low Roof
Payload Range = 3,747 - 3,925 pounds

Nissan NV 2500 V6 Cargo Van - High Roof
Payload Range = 2,866 - 2,921 pounds

Nissan NV 2500 V8 Cargo Van - High Roof
Payload Range = 2,755 - 2,866 pounds

Nissan NV 3500 V8 Cargo Van - High Roof
Payload Range = 3,582 - 3,637 pounds

Now, let's take a look at some weight ranges for common tools and materials to give you a better idea of what you carry and which van would work best for you!

4'X8' Sheet of 1/2" Plywood = 40-50 lbs.
1 Pallet of 530 Bricks = 2,400 - 2,600 lbs.
10 bags of Concrete = 500 lbs.
5 gallon bucket of Paint = 45-50 lbs.
Average Tool Bag = 30-40 lbs.
(100) 2x4's = 960-1,000 lbs.

By getting a good idea of how much cargo you use on a daily basis you can begin to figure out which Nissan Cargo Van would best suit your needs. Figure in 14 gallons of fuel at 8 lbs. per gallon, 200 lbs. per person in the vehicle, the weight of your van's shelving and there you go!

Bret Michaels joins Nissan Commercial Vehicles

As surprising as it sounds 1990's Rock-and-Roller Bret Michaels has teamed up with Nissan Commercial Vehicles to publish several videos online this week as a testament to the rigorous testing Nissan puts their Commercial Vehicles through. A highlight of the videos is an actual music video portraying Michaels singing to the Nissan Commercial Van Lineup - all while showcasing several different test tracks Nissan uses in their quality, reliability and field testing.

Nissan Commercial Vehicles also made news recently announcing the best cargo van warranty in America - a 5 year or 100,000 mile BUMPER-TO-BUMPER Warranty. Ask any contractor and they will tell you, this warranty is a huge step forward for Nissan Commercial Vans. To have that kind of peace of mind, to know that your van is covered for 100,000 miles is a huge benefit to any business owner.

The video can be found here What do you think?

Nissan now has Best Cargo Van Warranty in America

June 19, 2014

Nissan North America made a HUGE announcement today. In a letter issued to Nissan Commercial Vehicle Dealers, the Best Cargo Van Warranty in America was introduced.

Effective immediately all 2014 Nissan Commercial Vans will come with a best in class 5 year or 100,000 mile Limited Bumper-to-Bumper Warranty paired with a 5 Year or 100,000 Warranty.

By providing a warranty of this term and mileage, Nissan is making a statement - Our vans are reliable. Why else would they do it? If these Commercial vans had a track record of issues, recalls and breakdowns a warranty plan like this could cost Nissan tons of cash in repairs over the five year term or 100,000 miles. This step forward now gives Nissan the Best Cargo Van Warranty in the Country; that is something to brag about!

Nissan NV200 Cargo Van vs. Ford Transit Connect

Nissan NV200

vs.

Ford Transit Connect

by Scott M. Foy
Vacaville Nissan

The NV200 sales cycle is in full swing and after 9 months I can say sales have been great here in the Northern California Bay Area. Our only true competitor, the Ford Transit Connect has been doing well also as we both share a compact, manuverable, and fuel efficient compact cargo van. While from the outside they may look similar, I can assure you there are a few key differences that give the NV200 the heads up.

Molded Adrian Steel Partition

The longer cargo floor and molded Adrian Steel Bulkhead/Partitions allow the driver seat to travel backwards to the maximum stopping point, allowing longer leg drivers much more comfort. I'm 6'6" and actually feel comfortable in the NV200.

Longer Cargo Floor

I've heard from several Ford Transit Connect owners that getting even a 6-foot ladder in their van is difficult, most of the time it's impossible depending on the configuration. With the specially designed cargo partition/bulkhead in the NV200, and 6-foot ladder fits with room to spare.

City Fuel Economy

With an estimated 24 MPG city, the NV200 has a 3 mile-per-gallon edge over the Transit Connect. While the transit connect has a 2 mile-per-gallon advantage on the highway, I've heard from many customers that the NV200 Highwayt Estimated MPG is much lower than what customers are actually getting.

All in all each vehicle has its own attributes and features that some buyers find attractive. Some buyers have an issue with the Transit Connect being built in Turkey (yes, the country) and some buyers prefer having a "long-lasting Japanese product.

There are a few other items which give the NV200 and edge over the Transit, which are listed below.

Why by a Nissan NV Work Van?

Why by a Nissan NV Work Van?

by Scott M. Foy
Vacaville Nissan
Vacaville, CA

With the release of the Dodge Promaster, the continued production of the Mercedes Sprinter and the rumors of the newly designed Ford Transit coming over from Europe, the question being asked is; Why should I buy a Nissan Work Van? With so many vans competing for the same business, what makes one better over the other? A huge part of the answer is your intent of use - how you plan on using the van and what features are most important to you. I have first hand Nissan experience, so here's my justification of why the NV is a good choice.

Forward Engine Design

The NV will still offer a pickup truck based van, with the engine mounted all the way to the front. While certain competitors will offer a "doghouse" design with the engine sort of half in and half out of the driver area. If you have grown accustomed to driving a pickup, the NV will feel more like home to you than sitting up very high over a short nosed cargo van offered by our competitors.

Center Console

While it sounds fairly insignificant, the center console has played a large role in decision making for NV Cargo Van purchases. The large, lockable center console in NV features a sliding surface for writing, large interior storage with a laptop shelf, 12V power, storage tray, section for hanging file folders, business card and pen holder and an optional 110V power outlet. This center console, when used in part with the hard back flat-floding passenger seat, truly creates a mobile office on wheels!

Standard 2500 Features

The designers of the Nissan NV put a lot of thought into features that business owners use most and then compared that list with the Standard Options on our competitor's work vans. Small things like, I don't know, a radio are options on some of our competitors? Really? Here are some very popular features that are standard on the Nissan NV that you may find yourself paying extra for on a competitor's lot, or maybe not at all since they don't offer it!
  • 26 Speed HVAC system
  • AM/FM Radio with Single CD and AUX Input
  • Power Mirrors
  • 5-speed Automatic Transmission
  • Tilt Wheel
  • Center Console
  • Underseat Driver Storage Drawer
  • (3) Overhead Storage Bins
  • 3 sets of Interior Cargo Lights
  • 243 Degree Wide Opening Rear Cargo Doors

Customer Incentive Packages

Nissan Commercial Vehicles offers its customers multiple choices under their No-Cost Customer Incentive Program. Options include addition up-fit rebates, vehicle graphics, cargo partitions, shelving, ladder racks, and credits towards upgraded up-fit packages. Some of our competitors offer a credit, which typically requires you to come out of pocket for full packages like what we have to offer through Adrian Steel. Other competitors offer no type of customer incentive package at all, leaving you all alone to figure it out. I can say from experience with the NV that the Nissan CIP has been a huge part of our success.

Ride Quality

Part of my training as a Nissan Commercial Salesperson was to drive competitor's work vans and compare the ride quality to ours. The NV experience can be described as a pickup truck or large SUV ride - smooth and fairly quiet. It drives me crazy when people say "It feels a little heavy and sloshy". Really? A 9 foot tall cargo van that weighs 5,500 pounds didn't have the sporty feel like your 370Z sports cars? Say what???

When I drove the competitors vans I felt cramped, uncomfortable and noticed a significant amount of road noise. Sitting behind a wheel for 8 to 10 hours per day makes ride quality rank towards the top of my list. Very few people, once they drive a Nissan NV CargoVan, don't like. I've heard a thousand times, "This drives just like my Truck".

FedEx to Test all Electric Nissan NV200

Electric NV200 undergoes FedEx Testing

by Scott M. Foy

A subsidiary of FedEx Corp., FedEx Express announced that they will begin testing the Nissan e-NV200, an all-electric compact cargo van, under real world conditions in Washington.

This test marks the first time the vehicle will be used on North American roadways. Japan, Singapore, the United Kingdom, and Brazil have already seen their tests of the e-NV200 by FedEx Express and Nissan.

Both companies are committed to reducing the environmental impact of their operations worldwide. Using the e-NV200 in their fleet is part of the FedEx EarthSmart program -  a global platform designed to guide the company's environmental commitment in the communities where it operates. For Nissan, this effort aligns with its "Blue Citizenship" corporate social responsibility program. The focus of this program is to increase the number of vehicles that emit no greenhouse gases by exploring additional segments where its electric vehicle may be applied.

FedEx will deploy the Nissan e-NV200 in the Washington, D.C. market where it will undergo field tests that subject it to the routine requirements of a delivery vehicle. The end results will be reviewed to determine the viability of using an electric vehicle in this role. Mass production of the Nissan e-NV200 is scheduled to begin later this year in Europe, according to the delivery company.

Nissan NV Cargo Van & Adrian Steel Upfit Packages

Every contractor has their work van setup differently depending on the job it needs to do. Locksmiths, HVAC Contractors and Electricians now have a little bit easier time getting their vans up-fitted with the Nissan NV Cargo Van Contractor Up-fit Packages provided by Adrian Steel. Instead of taking the standard cargo van racks and bins, contractors can choose from one of six pre-configured packages. These packages come designed keeping an individual tradesman's needs in mind, along with an upfront Customer Co-pay Price. Please see our review of the most popular packages we sell and contact us directly for more information.

Adrian Steel Electrical Package - $1,121 Co-Pay

The Electrical Package features the standard AD Series Shelving, but stuffed to gills with functional organizers. There are two full-shelf locking doors for larger power tool security and. The curbside of the van features an AD Series Shelf with small parts pull-out storage drawers, a locking door and a 4 hook bar at the rear. The streetside features two AD Shelves fully stocked with individual Blue Storage Bins that can be removed for easy re-stocking and cleaning. Also these streetside shelves are equipped with upper tier storage dividers, allowing the contractor to maintain some order with there medium and large parts storage. To the rear of the curbside shelves there is a wire tiered wire spool holder as well.

Adrian Steel HVAC Package - $992 Co-pay

Once again the AD Series Shelving is used as the platform for this functional HVAC Contractor Package. Shelf dividers, blue bins, small part storage drawers and a locking shelf door all carry over from the previous package, however a 30-pound Freon tank holder is added to the rear street-side shelving. Designed to carry a maximum of 3 tanks, this rack is secured to the lower and upper shelving rails for a snug fit, and bottle straps keep your tanks in place.

Locksmith Package - $1,900 - $2,400 Co-Pay

Now we come to my personal favorite, the Adrian Steel Locksmith Package. Out of the 5 Locksmith Packages we've sold, only one has been to an actual locksmith. The large, sturdy workbench and plentiful storage make the Locksmith Package a mobile workshop on wheels. Maintenance contractors LOVE having somewhere out of the rain/sun to go and work. There's enough storage space to keep a well stock van at all times. Add in a few additional LED strip lights and a rear A/C unit and this van is literally a rolling workstation. The Low Roof and High Roof designs differ, hence the dual pricing of $1,900 or $2,400.

There are several other up-fit packages available and you can get more information about them by visiting our website here and speaking with Scott Foy.

Adrian Steel Roof Rack Review - Vacaville Nissan

Review - Adrian Steel Roof Racks for Nissan NV Cargo Van

January 11, 2014
by Scott M. Foy

As a large Nissan Commercial Dealer in Northern California I have had my share of feedback from customers using the Adrian Steel Roof Racks. Based on their experience (and my own) I have compiled this review to give prospective buyers an idea of what they can expect.

Adrian Steel Nissan NV Standard Roof 2-Bar and 3-Bar Roof Rack

While the 2 and 3-bar roof rack is fairly inexpensive, this rack leaves much to be desired. The Nissan NV has reinforced mounting points for the roof rack which are designed to eliminate the need to drill into the van to mount accessories. The problem with this rack is that the first set of mounting points at the back of the van leave the area over the rear cargo doors exposed, resulting in damage from mounting ladders, lumber and other items. I would avoid this roof rack if at all possible.

Adrian Steel Nissan NV Standard Roof 3-Bar Roof Rack with Rear Roller

The 3 bar roof rack with rear roller completely eliminates the issues listed for the standard 2 and 3-bar roof rack. The roller protrudes off the back of the van, providing a platform to rest your ladders/lumber on, and then assists your items onto the rack using the roller system. This is a great option, functions well and holds up to heavy duty use. This is a recommended rack, however; shorter drivers may have difficulties getting the items up onto the rack all the way.

Adrian Steel Nissan NV Standard Roof EZ Load

The patent pending design of the EZ Load Ladder Rack brings the ladder down the side of the van about 6” towards the operator making it easier to reach when you unload and more importantly, when the operator has to load the ladder, they no longer have to lift the ladder to the top of the cargo van reducing the risk of injury. This is actually a very nice rack, available in single and double configurations. This is a ladder rack, and lumber/pipe is not designed to be carried. You will need to invest in a Roof Mounted Pipe Box. No bungee cords are needed as four brackets secure the ladder tightly in place during transportation. Proper adjustment should take place when you first load your ladders on the EZ Load Rack, which can hold extension ladders up to 36' and A-Frame ladders up to 8 feet.

Adrian Steel Nissan NV Loadsright Ladder Racks

Now these racks are cool. Adrian’s LOADSRITE Ladder Racks easily raise and lower to eliminate the need to climb, stretch or reach for your ladder on top of your van. The unique design of the LOADSRITE presents the ladder in a diagonal position bringing it to a comfortable working height in the right way. LOADSRITE, the right way to load and unload ladders. Available in single and double ladder configurations they can be pricey, but these are by far the easiest way to load ladders. If you own a Nissan NV High Roof Cargo Van this is really the only way to carry ladders. There are other rack makers who offer a High Roof Rack, but getting anything up there (almost 9 feet in the air) requires a second ladder.

That's all the reviews we have this time, but as always you can visit our website here for more information
