Diesel Engines Coming to a Nissan Titan Near You

2014 Nissan Titan Slated to House new Cummins Diesel Engine

Cummins is currently developing a four-cylinder diesel engine using funds provided by the U.S. Department of Energy and in partnership with Nissan for probable use in the Nissan Titan pickup.
Cummins expects its small displacement oil burner to get 40% better fuel economy over the current V-8 Titan truck engine, providing an average combined fuel economy of 28 mpg. An average fuel economy of 28 mpg places the Highway estimated fuel economy well over 30 mpg - not too shabby for a full size 1500 pickup considering the current Nissan Titan is only rated at 13/18 mpg city/highway and 15 mpg combined fuel economy.

Four cylinders might not seem like enough power for full-size pickup but it would be ideal to meet future government fuel economy goals while still producing nearly as much torque as some small V8's. Preliminary figures on the engine have produced 350 ft. lbs. of torque at around 1,800 rpm but are expected to provide about 380 ft. lbs. of torque in the final engine.

This project is slated to run through September 2014 when we expect the finally see the next-generation Titan.

Chicago Auto Show reveals 2013 Nissan NV200

Three key future Nissan vehicles – the all-new 2013 Nissan NV200 compact cargo van, the revised 2013 Nissan 370Z sports car and the Pathfinder Concept, a preview of the re-imagined 2013 Nissan Pathfinder – shared the spotlight at the 2012 Chicago Auto Show.
2013 Nissan NV200

The Nissan NV200 provides a new entry point for current cargo van and small pickup buyers looking for a compact, efficient alternative to their larger, less fuel-efficient vehicles. It is set to join the growing lineup of Nissan Commercial Vehicles in early 2013 at Nissan of Vacaville near Sacramento, CA. The NV200 follows the Nissan NV Cargo, introduced in spring 2011, and the recently released Nissan NV
12-Passenger Van.
While new to North America, the Nissan NV compact van is already in use in more than 40 countries around the world, receiving acclaim from both users and media alike for its optimal functionality and smart design. As the next "innovation for business," NV200 offers a large cargo capacity with a small exterior footprint, making it highly maneuverable in traffic or for negotiating city parking spaces like those found in San Francisco & Sacramento. Yet its proven compact commercial platform also allows for a 1,500-pound (estimated) maximum payload.
The roomy cargo area also allows for loading standard U.S. 40×48-inch pallets. Added utility is provided by the standard integrated mounting points, which allow installation of Free racks and shelves without drilling into the sidewalls.
The 2013 Nissan NV200 features an efficient 2.0-liter 16-valve DOHC 4-cylinder engine. The engine is matched with a next-gen Xtronic CVT®, which combines smooth operation and responsive performance.

Nissan 12 Passenger First of its Kind

This year Nissan Commercial Vehicles released the Nissan NV 12 Passenger Van. The NVP is truly a van like no other (with its eight standard airbags offering head protection for all 4 rows of passengers) and reconfigurable seating with over 324 different arrangements. Our competitors still only offer bench seats which are cumbersome and difficult to remove while the NVP has single and double seats allowing even normal sized humans the chance to configure the seating as they wish.

With features such as leather seating, Navigation, BlueTooth, Xm Radio, Back-up Camera and Front and Rear Sonar Systems, the NVP is doing very well with our local Sacramento and San Francisco owners. Nissan of Vacaville has sold many of these so far - mostly the fully loaded SL Package which carries an MSRP just below $40,000.

For more information please visit our website and contact Scott Foy from Vacaville Nissan at 707-455-4541 with any questions.

Nissan NV200 to Give Ford Transit Connect a Run for the Money

Arriving in early 2013, Nissan NV200 Compact Cargo will be giving the popular Ford Transit Connect a run for its money. Featuring dual-sliding side doors, an extremely fuel efficient 4-cylinder engine and 122 cubic feet of cargo space, the NV200 Compact Cargo will be a great addition to any fleet big or small. With an overall length of only 186" the NV200 will fit in the tightest city spaces or compact parking stalls at the local Home Depot.

As we reach the release of the NV200 I'm certain we will receive more information regarding the Nissan Customer Incentive Programs offering cargo shelving, ladder racks and accessories designed to make the NV200 work to the best of its abilities.

As always stay tuned to our website and feel free to call Vacaville Nissan with any questions at 707-455-4541.

Nissan NV Van Visualizer

As I have said before some of the Nissan NV's most impressive attributes are the Free Customer Incentive Packages available. I have included a link to the Customer Incentive Website for you to check out here.

I urge you to launch the "Van Visualizer" and see first hand how the shelving, storage drawers, bins, ladder keeper and accessories will look installed and ready for work!

From experience in the Sacramento and San Francisco Nissan NV Cargo Van Markets the Cargo Partition and Shelving is the most popular package and the visualizer will allow you to tweak the cargo area and see which Trade Package will work best for you and your business. We now offer trade specific cargo management packages for HVAC, Electrical, Cable, Locksmith. General Service and Security Contractors at a reasonable co-pay.

Should you have any questions please feel free to contact me, Scott Foy at Vacaville Nissan by calling 707-455-4541.

Nissan NV Cargo Van is more than just a van...

In February of 2011 I was approached to start up the Nissan of Vacaville Commercial Sales Department. Having experience with Chevrolet Commercial Vehicles in the I balked at the idea, knowing good and well Nissan did not have a solid Commercial Vehicle presence in the United States. After seeing the product I knew that Nissan Commercial Vehicles had hit the nail on the head with the new Nissan NV Cargo Van Lineup and had to be a part of it.

Looking back a year and a half later I cannot believe how far we have come. I honestly believe Nissan is producing the best cargo van on the market and I have the honor of being one of the guys selling them. In just a year and a half we have captured close to a 10% market share and Nissan of Vacaville is constantly in the Top 2 NV Dealers in the Western Region. How are we doing so well? Why are Chevrolet and Ford Cargo Van owners switching to the Nissan NV? The answer is simple - we listened.

For anyone who has spent time behind the wheel of a cargo van they well know that comfort, convenience and technology have not been as prevalent in the cargo van segment as it has been in most passenger vehicles. Nissan surveyed cargo van owners asking them what they liked, and most importantly, what they didn't, about their current cargo vans. Nissan asked, they listened and then created the most innovative cargo van on the market.

I could go on for pages about comparisons, horsepower, frames, features and benefits but who has the time? I have found the NV has broken open the floodgates to Chevrolet and Ford Cargo Van owners on a few basic levels.

Comfort & Convenience

From first glance it's obvious that the NV is unique. The High Roof offers a 6'4" maximum cargo height - plenty of room for the average worker to stand up in the back of the van. The front of the van sports a large hood with a forward mounted engine. Unlike our competitors our engine is in front of our van, eliminating the "doghouse effect". This has increased legroom and foot room while providing a higher level of safety in a collision. I am 6'6" tall and find the driver's seat comfortable and roomy.

The NV offers a Navigation System, Backup Camera, Blue tooth, XM Radio, 400 Watt inverter with two 110V outlets as well as enough storage in the center console for a full sized laptop. This mobile office has been a hit with our current owners.

Power & Functionality

The NV offers two engines - a 261 horsepower V6 and a beastly 317 Horsepower V8. When teamed up with our fully-boxed frame (the other guys use C-Channels) the NV is more of a truck with a van body than an actual cargo van. The available Factory Tow Package on the V8 provides a 9,500 pound towing capacity (2,000 pounds more than some 2 of our 3 competitors).

Customer Incentive Package

In my opinion this is by far one of the most appealing attributes to the NV. Nissan has teemed up with Adrian Steel to provide you with several FREE Customer Incentive Packages including shelving, ladder racks, partitions and vehicle graphics. The kicker is this - we actually install them for you! No "Credits" to use and then have to deal with it on your own - I personally oversee every installation with a typical completion time of 5-7 business days. Our competitors will offer you a credit or rebate and send you out into the world to figure it out for yourself.

In closing, if you live within 250 miles of Sacramento and are interested in a Nissan NV Cargo Van, you owe it to yourself to contact me directly. I can assist you in picking out the correct van, upfits and financing options that best suit your needs without the back-and-forth of the typical "Retail" dealership.

We are located at 671 Orange Drive in Vacaville, California on I-80 and our Fleet Manager Scott Foy can be reached at 707-455-4541.

What Vehicles Qualify for the full Section 179 Deduction?

What are the limits on Typical Passenger Vehicles?
For passenger vehicles, trucks, and vans (not meeting the guidelines below), that are used more than 50% in a qualified business use, the total deduction for depreciation including both the Section 179 expense deduction as well as Bonus Depreciation is limited to $11,060 for cars and $11,160 for trucks and vans.
Exceptions include the following vehicles:
  • Ambulance or hearse used specifically in your business;
  • Taxis, transport vans, and other vehicles used to specifically transport people or property for hire;
  • Qualified non-personal use vehicles specifically modified for business (i.e. van without seating behind driver, permanent shelving installed, and exterior painted with company’s name).
Limits for SUVs or Crossover Vehicles with GVWR above 6,000lbs
Certain vehicles (with a gross vehicle weight rating above 6,000 lbs but no more than 14,000 lbs) qualify for expensing up to $25,000 if the vehicle is financed and placed in service prior to December 31 and meet other conditions.

What Vehicles Qualify for the full Section 179 Deduction?

Many vehicles that by their nature are not likely to be used for personal purposes qualify for full Section 179 deduction including the following vehicles:
  1. Heavy “non-SUV” vehicles with a cargo area at least six feet in interior length (this area must not be easily accessible from the passenger area.) To give an example, many pickups with full-sized cargo beds will qualify (although some "extended cab" pickups may have beds that are too small to qualify).
  2. Vehicles that can seat nine-plus passengers behind the driver's seat (i.e.: Hotel / Airport shuttle vans, etc.).
  3. Vehicles with: (1) a fully-enclosed driver's compartment / cargo area, (2) no seating at all behind the driver's seat, and (3) no body section protruding more than 30 inches ahead of the leading edge of the windshield. In other words, a classic cargo van.
Other Considerations
Vehicles can be new or used (“new to you” is the key).

The vehicle can be financed with certain leases and loans, or bought outright.
The vehicle in question must also be used for business at least 50% of the time - and these depreciation limits are reduced by the corresponding % of personal use if the vehicle is used for business less than 100% of the time.

Remember, you can only claim Section 179 in the tax year that the vehicle is "placed in service" - meaning when the vehicle is ready and available - even if you're not using the vehicle.

Further, a vehicle first used for personal purposes doesn't qualify in a later year if its purpose changes to business.

Nissan's TRAC Lease a Huge Hit with Businesses

When I mention leasing an NV Cargo Van to most people customers their eyes glaze over and I can tell they have no interest in what I'm saying. But here's a fact, the Nissan TRAC lease offers businesses a unique financing opportunity that is gaining popularity and has great tax benefits. Here's how a TRAC lease works.

A TRAC lease, also known as an Operating Lease, gives you the business owner the opportunity to write-off the monthly lease payment as an operating expense which helps with cash flow. The TRAC lease has no mileage or wear-and-tear clauses. You may drive your NV Cargo Van a million miles during the term without paying a mileage penalty. It offers several terms (months of financing) and multiple residuals per term. This allows you to customize your monthly payments to fit your budget and needs. The best part of a TRAC lease is that there is virtually no money down. The only amount you need to put down is the first monthly payment including the sales tax.

What happens at the end of the TRAC lease you ask? There are several options. You can either write a check for the residual amount and own the vehicle, finance the residual amount or simply return the vehicle and start all over again. One important note to take is that when the lease term is over you will owe the difference (if any) between the residual amount and the price that the vehicle sells for at auction. For example, if the residual amount is $7,500 and the vehicle sells at auction for $6,000 you will owe the $1,500 difference. If the same vehicle sells for $8,500 you will receive the difference back to you. Don't let the fact that you may owe money at the end scare you. If you drive your Nissan NV Cargo Van under a standard lease 30,000 miles a year for three years you will have a $6,750 over-mileage bill due at the end of the lease. The TRAC lease really is a win-win for companies looking to have an NV Cargo Van for a low monthly payment with a low upfront cost.

Right now Nissan of Vacaville has an NV Cargo Van TRAC lease special for $379 per month plus taxes. Please visit our website to view the vehicle specifications and contact me, Scott Foy at 707-455-4541 for more information.

The government can pay for 35% of your next business vehicle purchase!

In the Fleet and Commercial Vehicle sales world, salesman across the country look forward to this time of year the most. Not because of the holidays, but because of the flood of business owners that will be coming into the dealership to take advantage of Section 179.

Many of you business owners out there are familiar with this program but for those of you who are not you are missing a huge opportunity. Section 179 gives business owners the opportunity to reap huge tax benefits by purchasing certain vehicles that will be used at least 51% of the time for "business use". There are stipulations as to which vehicles can be purchased and written off so please consult your CPA for more information.

For most businesses the 6,000 lb. GVWR rule is the best to abide by. This means that vehicles that meet or exceed a Gross Combined Vehicle Weight Rating of 6,000 pounds qualify for the tax breaks. 6,000 pounds sounds like a lot but you may be surprised to know that the Nissan Titan, Armada and NV Cargo Vans all qualify for this program.

For more information on this great program please click here to visit the Section 179 website, consult with your tax professional and feel free to contact Scott Foy at Vacaville Nissan for more information on the Nissan vehicles that qualify!
